Did you ever disagree with someone, maybe even strongly about something? We may not always share the same opinions as others even though as Christians we have many common values.
The key is being able to disagree in a loving, peaceable manner. That means leaving things in God’s hands as we don’t see the whole picture – only God does. We need to obey God’s teachings and not become rebellious or proud. God tells us in 1st Samuel 15:23 “for rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry.”
Our job as Christians is to uphold God’s teachings, not to rebel against His Word. Sometimes that means agreeing to disagree with our brothers and sisters in Christ. In Romans 13:1, God further tells us to “be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” Therefore, we mustn’t be wont to revolt but to accept that God, who knows the beginning and the end, is the One in charge at all times.
May we be able defend lovingly what is right, without causing division in our relationships or rebellion against God’s Word. Remember God also said in Romans 12:19 “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
