Life’s most valuable treasures

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ~ Matthew 6:21

If I were to ask you what you value most in the world, what would you say?

We have only so much energy and time. What we focus our resources in is what we value most. As I grew older, I learned to value relationships. My mother always said even as a child, I tended to hold people at arm’s length. I was never focused on relationships and to be honest, never good at making them. That might be part of what drew me to study the course I chose in university. I’m not a rule-breaker, and I feel comfortable with structure.

However, over time I came to realise that what I had previously focused on (career, status etc) was really not what is important. As I learned to turn to GOD during times of trials, I came to see that my relationship with Him was what I treasured the most. I also found that I had mainly taken for granted the love that others had for me. It didn’t dawn on me until later how much of a privilege it is for someone to care about you. And I learned to treasure those relationships.

A person I respect a lot asked me once what I would have written on my gravestone. She said that’s who you are – those are what you value.

I hope dear Reader you always cherish GOD and the people who love you. They are after all, life’s most valuable treasures.

God bless you ~Mary
